Morocco | Tangier, Morocco

On Saturday Fernando, Ed, Jerry (Canadian friends) and I took a day trip to Morocco. That might sound a little strange to some of you...A 'day' trip to Morocco. It's because parts of Spain are only a 13km boat ride from Morocco. We took a high speed boat across which took about 45 minutes, and then spent the rest of the day on a guided tour through the city of Tangier. We started the tour by driving to a light house where the Atlantic ocean meets the Mediterranean sea(Cape Spartel)Then we continued on to ride CAMELS! I was nervous as first because they are way bigger than I had expected. But I convinced Fernando to go with me, and it turned out to be great. After the camel ride, the bus took us to a spot on a hilltop with a gorgeous view of Spain from Morocco (you can see how close the two countries really are in the photos below). After all that we were starving, so we all stopped for a traditional Moroccan lunch of couscous, lentil soup, and shish-kebabs. We even topped it off with a pastry and fresh mint tea! After lunch, we walked through the old city, markets and were allowed an hour to explore and shop. Unfortunately, since there is such poverty, the beggers and street vendors were too aggressive for us, and we decided to spend our hour sitting in a cafe and watching the city. It was a great day with great people, I can't wait until more friends come and I can go back! Who's next?
